Actually, I have been posting about , and boycotting (when possible), Chinese products since 2006.

Where my stuff comes from is important. The closer, the better. We try hard to buy local, organic, sustainable, and fair trade.

We are not perfect at it. But over time our negative impact on the Earth has lessened while our dollars have stayed closer to home.  It is an ongoing process of personal growth and deepening commitment. Understanding that executives don’t give a shit beyond the bottom line – their jobs, mortgage, family, and toys.

Since the 1990’s I have been taking an informal survey of persons wearing American flagged apparel. Also, when in  clothing stores I will look at the labels.  Ninety eight percent of the time the item is made elsewhere.

How about this sentiment on your infant’s onesie.  I guess if you disagree with our inherent militarism you ought to be shot.  That is the American Way to some.  They love to “defend” freedoms they don’t believe in.  As long as it involves shooting.  They see life as Win-Lose.

Please understand, I have no animus toward the Chinese people or culture.  I have much regard for them.  One might argue that a boycott would hurt the people.  If  this is so, they will turn and put added pressure on their government to do the right things.

Also, I have no animus for gun owners.  However I do abhor the the use of threat to dissuade others from thinking differently.  Isn’t that what we should be defending – the freedom of thought.

Russian and Chinese support for this regime runs deep.  What threatens one brutal government, threatens them all.

Assuredly, the protection of these two authoritarian states will embolden the miscreant – Bashar al-Assad. As we sit here, he resumes his slaughter of defenseless civilians.

I am not helpless.  I can let the idiots know I am not buying their stuff:

Censorship by ommision: Josh Fox Arrest Was Under-Reported

I believe the arrest of Josh Fox was woefully under-reported on local and network television, and in local print media. Myself ,and others, have not observed any local or national television coverage of this fiasco. A search of their websites was equally fruitless.

I have seen no coverage today,  either.

I should mention,  I do not get the cable news channels.  But my focus here is on the local and mainstream media.

If I am accurate (even partially), for many NEPA citizens – the incident never happened.

Instead we were offered super bowl recipes, groundhog abuse, sports adoration, celebrity worship, weather obsession, and (“unfortunately”) there was little time left for actual news.  This small window of news programming gives censorship an excuse: “Gee whiz , we just can’t cover everything!”

Josh’s arrest was news. It was big news.

He is a national figure who lives nearby in Wayne County. He is a Sundance  Film Festival winner and an Oscar nominee. “Fracking” is an issue  widely known and debated in our region.  It  threatens each of us in various ways.  What’s not to report??

He was hand-cuffed and his constitutional rights were denied him.

That should always be big news in a democracy.

What puzzles me is the lack of information about the arrest on the ABC News website. I did a search, “Josh Fox Arrested” and came up with nothing. Josh Powell – Yes. Josh Fox – no. This is especially surprising given that an ABC film crew was present at the same hearing and also denied “permission” to film the hearings. They complied. Josh did not.  He stood up for journalistic and constitutional rights.

Josh Fox Arrested

Today Josh Fox was arrested by capital police when he refused to turn off his camera when filming the House Subcommittee on Energy and the Environment. The chairman is a Republican and it seems as if he was prejudicial against Fox on a technicality. Although the proceedings were being webcast, the Republicans chose to deny him (and us) our first amendment rights.  I guess they wanted to show him who is in control:
